Brodeur can smash his stick all he wants, but the officials got it right last night. Rules state that if a goalie is out of his crease and there is incidental contact between the goalie and a player while a goal is scored. Goal counts.
Brodeur wandered too far out of his net and you could argue that he ran into Jokinen. Jokinen had his back to Brodeur, how was he to know that Brodeur was on a road trip two feet outside of his crease?
Right call was made, and it seemed that the screen and not the contact is why the goal was scored anyways.
Seven of the eight first round series were 2-0. That's the most since the lockout concluded. Which means there are quite a few teams in the post-season tied with the Leafs in playoff wins.
Canucks get their first ever four-game sweep, and it was the NHL's 100th, four-game sweep. Is there some kind of milestone presentation for that.
The trap is alive and well. Anybody watching the Detroit/Columbus series? Wings have this forcefield around their net that nobody can get through. Been like that for a few years, no wonder they average about 25 shots against per-game. Start shooting from centre.
So there's reports that Schneider and Tanguay aren't hurt, they're hiding. Schneider is old, so cut him some slack.
Crosby and Malkin continue to put on a show. Pittsburgh ran through the East in last years playoffs in five games or less. No reason to think they won't do it again. My apologies Bruins fans, Penguins are heading towards the summitt.
I have no comments on the Sharks/Ducks series. Too late for me to stay up and watch the games.
One of the benefits of the first round of the playoffs is watching local game coverage of the series. So right now the playoff leader for biggest homer is Jack Edwards of the Bruins after his empty net goal call on Monday. Jack better keep an eye on his rear view mirror because Chico Resch is approaching fast.
