If Bettman wants to do the right thing for hockey, he will not oppose the purchase and relocation. Since the players salaries depend on league wide revenue, how long before the NHLPA steps in and says “wait a minute Gary, a team like Phoenix is costing us money, let them move to a viable market”
I know Bettman doesn't want to lose a US TV market. How many times was Phoenix on Versus last season? Five or less games. How much money would CBC and TSN give the NHL to show games of a new Canadian team.
If Bettman blocks this deal, he needs to get the Boot and go hang out with Boots.
In these economic times, Balsillie is a Knight in Shining Armour for the NHL, he's good for hockey, he's good for the economy and who knows maybe Balsillie is even good for global warming.
